"What is a core patent?"
some sort of pattented apple peeler??
Ha Had some time to look into a "core" patent and its meaning,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
quite simple now lets see if I can explain it.
Lets use the apple peeler as an example, now class pay attention lol.
Say I invent the first apple peeler on the market.
I then apply for a patent and get a "core" patent.
My neighbour north of me sees my invention and he decides to change the angle of the blade. He may get a patent (design) I believe BUT I am entitled to a royalty because I hold the "core" patent.
Say my neighbour to the south of me comes along and decides to make a further change to my northern neighbours design and add a motor, thus making the first motorized apple peeler on the market..... well he may also get a design patent but.............
Guess what? Me (as inventor of the first apple peeler) and holder of the "core" patent is entitled to a royalty while my neighbour to the north of me is not.
Jonboy's conclusion holders of "core" patents win big time, if everyone hops on the band wagon.
So how does this all relate to SBTI and to DSI with their core patent............ opps gotta run for supper.
