New press release...

BROOMALL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--Scangraphics(R) Inc. (NASDAQ: SCNG), announced today that its Scanner Division unit, located in Englewood, Colorado, which operates under the trade name of Tangent Color Systems(TM) has received orders from Sihl GmbH, a major European reseller, for a more than $650,000 of its large format color scanners.

The Sihl Group, a major European provider of large-format color image substrates for digital imaging and printing applications, through its subsidiary Sihl GmbH (formerly Renker GmbH) in Germany, is a key reseller of Tangent large format color scanners in the European market. Sihl began selling Tangent scanners to reprographics firms in November 1996. From December 1996 through March 1997, Sihl sold five sheetfeed scanners. Sihl presented the Tangent scanner at the CeBIT show in Hannover in March 1997. As a result, sales have exceeded expectations, with 13 additional sales in the last two months alone. Sihl is aggressively demonstrating the Tangent scanner at shows throughout Europe and is pursuing new market areas (i.e., Geographic Information Systems and Reprographics) where the scanner provides industry leading scanning and scan-to-print solutions. As a Tangent reseller, Sihl provides complete support to its customers including training and full service maintenance.

According to Werner Ciupka of Sihl, "Tangent not only has the largest sheetfeed color scanner on the market today, it also provides the highest quality output of any scanner we've seen. We also like the fact that Tangent's scanners can handle documents on foamcore and other thick substrates. And, the best news for us, of course, is the color calibration software they provide - it's capable of turning out copies that look exactly like the original."

Laurence L. Osterwise, CEO of Scangraphics said, "I am clearly pleased with the increasing level of interest in the Tangent Color Systems products. Once again we are proving that when you take good technology and products, and put it in the hands of new, strong leadership in new markets, things start to happen."

Scangraphics is a provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database management software products and is a pioneer and leader in scanning and image processing technology, large document scanners, backfile conversion services, and imaging software and systems. Its products are marketed internationally through systems integrators and distributors. Scangraphics is a publicly held corporation, with shares traded on NASDAQ (SCNG).
