No, I mean political way. There are plenty of politicians - in the worst sense of the word - in both parties. The reason you need smaller government is to reduce the opportunities for spreading costs from those who want to get out from under them to the general public. I haven't seen a strong move from any party to reduce the size of the federal government - thus to let markets work. I do recognize that democrats are less inclined to free markets and so tend to gum up things like this to a degree greater than do republicans. The sad thing is that if the citizens of California understood supply and demand, a fairly simple economic concept, they would have known that the scheme they were undertaking could not work.
