U.S. Robotics Announces Free `I-team' Provisioning; Expands Beyond ISDN to Include Additional Digital Services Business Wire - June 03, 1997 08:08 FINANCIAL U-S-ROBOTICS USRX ILLINOIS COMPUTERS ELECTRONICS COMED TELECOMMUNICATIONS INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA INTERNET V%BW P%BW SKOKIE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997-- I-team(TM) Offers Free Provisioning and Support for Digital Lines, Helps Internet Service Providers Speed Deployment of x2(TM) Service U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ:USRX) today announced free I-team service provisioning for its digital customers. The I-team, U.S. Robotics' ISDN and digital customer service group, now provides free service provisioning, and has expanded its services to include: T1; Primary Rate Interface (PRI); Frame Relay; and x2 compatibility verification to ensure Internet Service Provider (ISP) lines are properly configured for x2 service. These services are available today toll free at 888-USR-ISDN or on the World Wide Web at totalservice.usr.com . Since June, 1995, the I-team has been providing complete pre-sales information on service availability, installation charges, connection and usage charges, and technical support for digital products. I-team services are now available at no charge to ISPs, large corporations, small businesses, and home users utilizing digital technology. "These new, free services are a great benefit for the hundreds of ISPs supporting U.S. Robotics' x2 (56 Kbps) technology offering significantly faster download speeds than standard V.34 modems. With the I-team, ISPs have a free, one-stop shop for ordering ISDN, T-1 and Frame Relay service nationwide," said Deb McEvilly, product manager for provisioning services for U.S. Robotics' Network Systems Division. "Any ISP, business or consumer can call the I-team with the locations that need digital service, and we'll provide pricing, provisioning and installation assistance for both sides of the connection." Additionally, the I-team provides troubleshooting and technical support for any digital line it installs for 30 days. Customers that order through the I-team also receive a free I-team Long Distance Calling Card which includes up to 75 minutes of free calling. x2 Support for Total Control(TM) and Other U.S. Robotics Remote Access Servers The I-team ensures that customers can use x2 on their Total Control or other U.S. Robotics remote access products by verifying that the hl service. The I-team will even place the order with the phone company, schedule line installation and conduct a customer follow-up once the line is installed. "The I-team proved to be very helpful dealing directly with the telephone company as a single point of contact," said Steve Millaway, president of Gain Communications Incorporated. "The I-team was able to contact the right people to execute requests and provide our trunkside T1 for x2. After we upgraded our Total Control Enterprise Network Hub to x2, the I-team helped us provision our T1 and work out any additional analog-to-digital conversions to make x2 a reality." Free Service Provisioning The I-team will determine the availability of digital services in a customer's area, and provide information on service availability, installation and lead times. The I-team can perform an initial loop qualification and order digital services for an individual or company through Independent Telephone Companies (ICOs), regional Bell operating companies (RBOCs) and inter-exchange carriers. They can arrange the scheduling of digital line installation and will help set up a connection with the customer's local ISP. All of these services are available at no charge. However, customers are responsible for installation and monthly digital line charges billed by their local telephone service providers. Custom Project-Based Services For customers who need large-scale digital services in multiple locations, the I-team offers an array of service packages to plan and implement ISDN or other digital services for a nominal fee. Services include pre-qual lines they ordered through the I-team. U.S. Robotics maintains a complete customer services business, including maintenance, implementation, training and technical services. It has established one of the most comprehensive support offerings available for remote access products, and will further develop these areas and announce new programs to expand its service offerings. U.S. Robotics is one of the world's leading suppliers of products and systems that provide access to information. The company designs, manufactures, markets and supports remote access servers and concentrators, enterprise communications systems, desktop/mobile client products and modems and telephony products that connect computers and other equipment over analog, digital and switched cellular networks, enabling users to gain access to, manage and share data, fax, voice and multi-media information. Its customers include Internet service providers, regional Bell operating companies, inter-exchange carriers and a wide range of other large and small businesses, institutions and individuals.
