Dell'Oro Group Projects the WAN Router Market will Reach $26 Billion in 2005

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2001--A new report released by Dell'Oro Group, projects that the WAN Router market will grow from $3 Billion in 2000 to $26 Billion in 2005.

``The need for additional routers will be necessary to accommodate increasing traffic from the user,'' says Tam Dell'Oro, Founder of Dell'Oro Group. ``For example, look at the bandwidth load created by users shifting from modems (e.g., 28.8 or 56 Kbps) to high-speed Internet access devices like ADSL and Cable modems.''

Routers perform key functions that enable traffic to move across the Internet, such as terminating and directing traffic, re-routing traffic during failures, and assigning and honoring the quality of service level for which the user has paid.
