The red highlights are only displayed if the requested word shows up on the results page. However, you do have two viewing choices for the results. Regular view shows the 1st 200 characters, and full-text view shows the entire message. You can also save your searches, so you can get the settings how you want them, and execute the search with one-click.

Once you click on a message, the term won't be highlighted, but I think this is solved by the full-text view results option.
