Novatel Wireless Selects Electronics Manufacturing Group to Manufacture Minstrel
Family of Wireless Modems
Companies sign strategic outsourcing manufacturing alliance
CALGARY, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - Electronics Manufacturing Group Inc., (CDNX:
EMY) announce a long-term manufacturing agreement with Novatel Wireless Inc.
(Nasdaq:NVTL), a provider of wireless modems and software whereby EMG will
provide full turnkey procurement and manufacturing services for two innovative
wireless information appliances: Novatel Wireless' Minstrel S(TM) wireless
handheld modem for Handspring Visor(TM) and the Minstrel 540(TM) Wireless
Modem that enables wireless access from the HP Jornada 540.
This new supply agreement constitutes a sizable manufacturing
relationship between the two companies and builds upon the initial purchase
order of $7M (U.S.) announced and delivered in the fourth quarter of 2000.
Production of the $18M (U.S.) contract will be based at EMG's Calgary
headquarters leveraging the company's existing supply chain and manufacturing
capabilities for the new fiscal year.
The order is a result of EMG's continued industry leading performance and
commitment to new product introductions and delivering a complete range of
product development and delivery services to the global technology and
electronics industry. The contract provides further evidence that EMG is
performing to its business plan and required EMG to double its Calgary
workforce to over 200 skilled technicians and move to operate 3 full time
shifts before the end of 2000.
