Jim,

Dirk probably designed the Athlon with many the same techniques that he used in the Alpha. The Alpha relied on a clock tree that drew huge amounts of current. Having this in mind, I have stated on several occasions that AMD would have a heck of a time reducing Athlon power. It's built into the architecture.

Waiting for AMD to prove me wrong.
