I agree with what you said about school prayer. I don't see why there couldn't be a consensus in the neighborhood of what you've described.

As for other religious speech, I wish we'd get over looking at that as a rights issue. IMO it's more of an etiquette issue. It's really rude to yammer incessantly in religious terms just as it's really rude to go on about one's recent operation or the cute thing that little Johnny did when you don't have reason to expect that your audience wants to hear it. It's also really rude to not grin and bear it when presented with a few baby pictures or a spontaneous religious expression. When we go to dinner at the home of a family that says grace, we bow our heads and shut up while they do it. On the other hand, they don't invite us to say grace unless they know that we're into that.
