In case you haven't heard, the battle for John Ashcroft's --
confirmation as Attorney General has erupted into a full
blown power struggle in the United States Senate.

Democratic Senators Ted Kennedy and Charles Schumer are
blasting former Senator John Ashcroft in ongoing
confirmation hearings for President-elect George W. Bush's
nominee. Ted Kennedy openly doubted John Ashcroft's
willingness to enforce the law claiming that "we know that
while serving in high office, he has time and again
aggressively used litigation and legislation in creative and
inappropriate ways to advance his political and ideological
goals." At one point, Ted Kennedy angrily pounded his fist
on the table to emphasize his dissatisfaction with Ashcroft.

Senator Chuck Schumer from New York was even more vicious,
saying, ''This (John Ashcroft) is a man who had dedicated
his career to eliminating a woman's right to choose. How do
you just turn it off?''

But the attacks on John Ashcroft don't stop there. Left-
wing protestors actually interrupted the testimony with
shouts and disorderly conduct. The protests against
Ashcroft continued outside the Capitol as protesters from
the National Organization of Women shouted "Down with
Ashcroft, down with hate!"

It's critical for George W. Bush to win the
battle for this nomination for him to be an effective
Republican President.
