CJ, I bet Dell will warn either today or tomorrow after the close of the market. Their advertising expenses must be throwing SG&A through the roof, and the 90-days no payments is a sure sign of the dire straights of the market. Falling component prices and option plays are the only thing that I think will mitigate a miss on the already lowered estimates, especially since the warning came before they experienced two really bad months in December and January. Investment income might be a loss this quarter for them.

The message that IBM has sent is that the specialized niche players like GTW, AAPL, and even HWP that does not have a developed product line and global reach like IBM, will suffer. In good times with soaring markets and a strong US economy, they do better than the global players such as IBM. CPQ is more like IBM than any of the others. I am planning on getting pretty aggressive on Compaq during the next retracement. SUNW and EMC are in a league apart, and it will be interesting to see what they have to say when they report in the next couple of days.
