3 Exchanges Install Compaq Servers

HOUSTON (AP) - Compaq Computer Corp., which boasts that 95 percent of the world's securities transactions are handled by its high-powered servers, announced Thursday it is providing high-end systems to three financial exchanges.

The Toronto Stock Exchange, Bourse de Montreal Inc. and Sydney Futures Exchange will begin using Compaq computers as they expand and attempt to handle higher daily trading volumes, Compaq said.

The exchanges asked that the value of the deals not be released, Compaq spokesman Alan Hodel said. The systems are in the process of being installed.

Compaq says more than 100 stock exchanges worldwide, including 14 of the 15 largest, have deployed the company's systems. Among them are the New York Stock Exchange (news - web sites) and Nasdaq Stock Market.
