Micromuse beats expectations +4 1/2

Although MUSE was a long today and I mentioned my love for this company and its usual beating estimates, we were very neutral about holding through earnings. We discussed the pros and cons and left the decision to the traders.

San Francisco-based Micromuse (MUSE: news, msgs) beat earnings expectations by 2 cents a share, compared with a survey of analysts by First Call/Thomson Financial. The software assurance company reported earnings of $7.7 million, or 10 cents a share, vs. a profit of $2.5 million, or 3 cents a share, during the same quarter last year. Revenue reached a record $49.8 million, a 123 percent increase over the first-quarter last year. Shares closed up $3 at $69.44.
