Hi Rarebird,

My apologies for the delay in responding to your post this morning. Things have been crazy at home this week. In reference to this:

Perhaps, Poet can elaborate on the sense in which the Left should feel compassion for Reagan here after all the "hell"
he created for many Americans.

I did not like Reagan's presidency and I agree that a number of the actions under his leadership have led to the suffering of others. However I think that compassion for Reagan's suffering (or actually, his friend's and family's suffering, since he is now absent) is merited. It feels right to me to take the high road here.

You brouight up a great issue when you mentioned Pinochet and his war crimes, I thought. If pinochet had liver cancer, I would feel badly that he was suffering pain. I wouldn't wish a disease on him, as it would not undo the suffering he caused others.

And last, I have no opinion at all on "how the Left should feel". I'm on the Left and this is how I feel. You're also on the Left and obviously have a different opinion. I find yours abhorrent, but you certainly have the right to feel the way you do. And I'm glad you feel free to express it here.
