AOL is going to have lots of competition in mid/late 97 by the telcos.

GTE and others will be selling ASDL services to endusers in the $40/month range. This will provide approx 200x the throughput of a 28.8 modem, as well as the internet link.

(GTE hasn't made their offering official, but their pricing structure ranges from $35-45/month for the service). Trials have been going on for some time. Check out Amati (symbol AMTX) threads for details on ASDL technology).
