RESEARCH ALERT-Nuance, Speechworks, Vocalis rated LONDON, Jan 18 (Reuters) - HSBC said on Thursday it had started coverage of speech recognition software stocks Nuance Communications Inc <NUAN.O>, SpeechWorks International Inc <SPWX.O> and Vocalis Group Plc <VOC.L> with "buy" recommendations. The bank said in a research note that Nuance was operating in a fast-growing market with significant opportunities to establish itself as a key player in specific markets similar to the one it had carved out in the telecoms market. On Speechworks, it said the infancy of the markets in which the firm is operating alongside recent strategic alliances and broadening of its product portfolio offered scope for the firm to exceed the bank's forecasts. On Vocalis, the bank said its discounted cash-flow analysis implied a price target of 434 pence. The stock was trading at 120 pence by 1407 GMT.
