I don't know why no one seems interested in posting about SAMsys.
With all of the recent and large developments especially with International Paper and the revelation that their initiative is expected to encompass $2 billion US, I think this stock deserves a serious look.

SAMSYS TECHNOLOGIES INC ("SMY-M") - International Paper Selects Company as Primary RFID Reader - Supplier SAMSys Technologies Inc., (www.samsys.com) of Toronto, a provider of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader hardware, has been selected to participate in International Paper Co.'s (NYSE: IP) smart packaging initiative as its primary supplier of passive RFID reader hardware.
SAMSys has been contracted to design, develop and manufacture a variety of reader solutions on behalf of IP's customers for various pilot projects that will go "live" as fully-functional commercial systems in the coming months.
"Our partnership with IP is expected to transform the RFID industry," says SAMSys CEO Cliff Horwitz. "Historically, the commercialization of the technology has been limited because of protocol and frequency issues. This alliance overcomes the vacuum that has existed within the industry and provides a powerful and global conduit to market a full array of RFID technologies. It is a formal endorsement and clear vote of confidence from an industry leader that our approach, versatility, philosophy and architecture is the way of the future."
International Paper is a member of the MIT Auto-ID Center and its smart packaging initiative is projected to play a major role in the reinvention of the global supply chain. Its mandate is to seek opportunities to deploy smart packaging RFID technologies to enhance data flow within operations of Fortune 500 organizations as well as the International Paper group of companies. Its value-added proposition is to decrease almost $70 billion of waste from inventory irregularities, excessive labor costs and theft in the retail supply chain.
"We are doing what nobody else is attempting to do in the industry - underwriting and deploying initiatives in the next few months to create pilot demonstrations to showcase the benefits of RFID," adds International Paper's e- Packaging product director Steven Van Fleet. "By using this technology to reinvent the global supply chain to physically track packages, it increases the functionality of our packages from a protection and transportation product to an information vessel."
International Paper, the world's largest paper-based packaging company produces about 30 billion packages a year. It is expected to bring automated identification to low-cost, disposable products for packages ranging from lipstick boxes, corrugated containers, folding cartons to breakfast cereal containers.
"We chose SAMSys as our primary reader supplier because of its agility to respond quickly to our customer's requests," says Van Fleet. "its industry- leading multi-frequency/multi-protocol technology provides optimal solutions regardless of the tag that is being used. Unlike traditional RFID vendors, who have standard reader form factors, SAMSys has demonstrated early on in our relationship that it can redefine its reader's specifications to meet our customer demands."
"The industry has long been waiting for an established leader like IP to deploy RFID technology using the full weight of its global financial and operational resources," adds Horwitz. "This agreement becomes the template for all future broad-based solutions and propels us into the next level of our own development, moving us from a technology-based company to one that is product- driven with a clear focus on delivering hardware solutions into high volume applications. Given the scope and magnitude of the projects that we are currently involved with, we expect to see a substantial revenue stream in the very short-term."
RFID is an electronic labeling system that uses radio frequency to count closely spaced items without the need to separate and scan individual items. RFID consists of a tag and a reader. The reader transmits a signal to the tag, which is a small transceiver. The tag transmits encoded data back to the reader, which logs it via computer. The tag has read-write capabilities, enabling its data to be modified remotely. The system provides greater flexibility over bar-code inventory-control systems because there are no line of sight requirements and physical contact or operator intervention is not required.
