Dan, <Just a month before Intel introduced the 440LX AGPset, the boys at Micron cooked up their first motherboard chipset silicon, which they call the Samurai> Sorry to burst your bubble, but Intel had the 440FX chipset long before 440LX. If I remember correctly, 440FX (or at least one version of it) was capable of 2-way SMP with Pentium Pro and Pentium II. Besides, if Micron's chipset came out only a month before 440LX, how in the world could Intel "copy" that chipset in only a month's time? Even that would take some amazing engineering. <If Intel hadn't stomped on this technologically innovative chipset, we'd probably have many 64 bit PCI cards available today and we'd be getting better overall performance from our machines.> Not so. 64-bit PCI cards are noticeably more expensive to manufacture than 32-bit cards, not to mention motherboards that supported them. And 66 MHz PCI is limited to only two PCI slots. 66/64 PCI is only useful for servers and high-end workstations. It's overkill for the desktop. Tenchusatsu
