TADPOLE: Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC gets the Magi P2P edge

Story Filed: Friday, January 19, 2001 4:54 AM EST

JAN 19, 2001, M2 Communications - Irvine (CA) and Reading (UK) -- Endeavors Technology Inc., the only company delivering
open-source, standards-based peer-to-peer software, today announced innovative peer-to-peer (P2P) infrastructure software for
Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC. Now part of the developer's Magi Embedded product line, the P2P software turns the iPAQ Pocket PC
into an interactive mobile web server capable of conducting two-way interaction with desktops, workstations, servers, and other
palmtops.

This latest P2P development further demonstrates Endeavors Technology's leadership in P2P computing, and its driving goal to
make the web two-way, ubiquitous and secure. With its Magi suite of P2P software, all web-enabled devices, from palmtops through
mainframes, will become fully interoperable peers, despite their unequal capabilities. This growing collection of Magi-enabled devices
is transforming the Internet into a rich and seamless, two-way environment where P2P collaboration across all web-enabled devices
provides secure access to any information from anywhere, at anytime.

Endeavors Technology's latest software is written on top of the iPAQ Pocket PC's Win CE operating system. The software's low
memory footprint allows the iPAQ to communicate as a true peer with any Magi-enabled desktop or device.

Available as licensed technology, the iPAQ P2P software is a groundbreaking enterprise-wide solution for companies expanding into
an un-wired business model.

Executive Comments Neil Dagger, senior product manager, Compaq UK and Ireland, comments: "The iPAQ Pocket PC was
designed to be more than a simple organiser, diary, and contact list but also to be a flexible and powerful access point to wireless
networks. The decision to make the platform available to third party developers was taken to enable the iPAQ to be adapted by any
organisation whose workers require real-time access to business critical information.

Peer-to-Peer technology will further enhance the use of the iPAQ Pocket PC and we welcome any new solutions that enhance the
customer experience."

"The accessibility-to-data factor rises significantly with Magi Embedded on the iPAQ Pocket PC," says Ilow Roque, chairman and
CEO of Portarius, a new company that is creating a breakthrough mobile connectivity solution for doctors and other healthcare
professionals. "With Magi peer-to-peer software turning the iPAQ Pocket PC into a truly effective mobile web server, doctors are
given unprecedented, anytime-anywhere access to, and processing of, medical records, prescription data and business transactions
stored on other web devices."

Brian Morrow, chief operations officer and president of Endeavors Technology, adds: "Delivering tomorrow's technology today,
Endeavors Technology's unique role in the worldwide peer-to-peer movement is to ensure that all manner of web-enabled devices
have the Magi P2P edge. Now Magi-enabled, Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC is transformed into a fully functional business tool for field
technicians, paramedics, or any other mobile worker that needs access to up-to-the-minute corporate information, even if it's
decentralized on other iPAQs, or similar web-enabled palmtops."

More On Magi

Magi peer-to-peer technology enables organizations, groups and individuals to find, share and act upon information anywhere, at any
time, by making the power of a web server available on any Internet-enabled device. Its open, standards-based application platform
incorporates automated e-process agents that enable event-driven, multi-way communications between servers, PCs, PDAs,
Internet-ready phones and embedded chips. The Magi suite of tools grew from research carried out at the University of California
Irvine, partly funded by the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), and integrates Web Distributed Authoring and
Versioning (WebDAV) technology. A P2P architecture white paper and the P2P Business Summary can be accessed at
