I find that very interesting. When I subscribed to a competitor of VZ for a h-s line, the ILEC (VZ) was out to my place within two weeks to install a separate loop. The competitor, on the other hand, didn't show up for two months. When they did finally show, their agent (who was a subcontractor) took a look at the network termination that VZ had left on the side of my house, and the kid promptly declared, "We don't do ladders." Haven't seen the kid since. Although I have heard from the company. They now want to give me a 128 line instead of the 2.0 Mb/s line that I'd agreed to. After several months of silence from them, today I received a call and an email asking me to phone them to re-schedule the install date. I guess they now figure that I forgot about the speed discrepancy by now.

And so it goes.
