langa clearly doesn't pull punches with remarks like this about windows me.... "an abortive hybrid that actually manages to combine the *worst* of Win98 (lingering
instabilities) and Win2K (piggishness)."

Add big Al's comments to that.

Windows Me is an oddity. The doctor cannot explain this in medical terms except to note that Microsoft must not know what it wants to do with Windows. Microsoft probably wanted to create a modern version of Windows to match the needs of the Millennium (the full name of Windows Me is, in fact, Windows Millennium). Instead, it produced a version of Windows that has the same weaknesses as Windows 98. Even the "System Restore" function of Windows Me is badly flawed; instead of restoring a workable computer operating system, it will restore all computer viruses and infected files from an earlier session.
Windows Me hides the oldest part of Windows 98, MS-DOS, and boots up without using it. But once it's running, Windows Me is no different from Windows 98. Perhaps Windows Me is best thought of as Windows 98 with a hairdo -- a bad "do" at that.
