FCC -- Use it or lose it?
Does anyone have a link or other verifiable source of information that confirms the"attitude" referenced below. I know about the FCC study on spectrum reallocation, but I have not heard of the "use it or lose it" policy being applied in this context to MMDS. If the assertion is accurate, then the risk and potential reward for stockholders in this sector are both going up. It suggests that Sprint and WorldCom must either accelerate their buildouts or risk losing the spectrum that they paid billions for.

"Those debates took on a sense of urgency as providers of BFW systems face the specter of the Federal Communications Commission's “use it or lose it” philosophy. "

"The FCC has developed this attitude toward allocated spectrum in the 2.5-GHz multichannel, multipoint distribution system (MMDS) band in recent months because of a shortage of 3G spectrum. As the agency considers moving existing broadband and MMDS users to a higher frequency band to make room, BFW providers claim such a move would be too expensive. "
