Good points. My analysis is that the indexes, per se, may have difficulties for the full year. I call 2001, "The Year of Divergence," because I believe we will slowly begin to see investors distinguishing relative opportunity among subsectors of technology, and even within subsectors of technology. For example, among subsectors, the PC makers may stagnate as the storage makers advance. Then, within subsectors, Juniper has advanced, while Redback has retraced.

I believe that these events may unfold because there is a lot of money on the sidelines, but yet still a lot of fear and a lot of greed. Just as it was tough to fight the fed in March-May 2000, and then fight the outflow of moneys and high margin debet in October-Dec 2000, so too it may be tough to fight the fed as they ease and as moneys flow into the market through 401k and IRAs in early 2001.
