rick,

"ok, I'll check it out tomorrow"

good. it only takes a few secs. i'm thinking that maybe not as many new systems come with dma enabled on default as some might think. but that's just something i'm guessing on until i hear more feedback from actual users. (that'd be you, rick.) <g3>

"I am hooked on the idea of building a network--that was a good site you posted btw"

yes, i agree. i am reading through it myself right now, very slowly. i want to network just 2 puters, and i have the three nics already (because of cable modem) and the cat5 crossover cable he mentioned as an alternative to a hub.

only special consideration i have is the one-way cable modem with analog dialup and cable downstream. i was told that takes a router, but at this point, that means next to nothing to me. another consideration is configuring three firewalls. but i have this real positive feeling about a network is going to rule.

once i get the two networked, i just know i'll be shopping for a third puter cause, well, what else.... if you have a network, you need computers to hook into it!!

keep us posted, space cadet

:)
