Hi Berney:
It does not make much sense to quote absolute numbers. Much more important is either per capita or per GNP. Now I dont know - had no time to look for it, but thats beyond the point - how US GNP fared 69. At the yearly rate of growth of ~7.5% US would be taxed today to the same amount as in 69. Which (ie 7.5%) I doubt. So point 1 (concurring with you): you are taxed today more than in 69.

>>thanks that all other costs we incur have not increased ... or we would be paying about $3 a gallon for gas<<

Point 2: so that's the reason for the Desert storm &Co;\. BTW I am paying 3$ per gallon (still not expensive enough for a nonrenewable resource).

US is in a very interesting spot right now:
a) large foreign deficit (denominated in $)
b) very much negative savings rate
c) budget surplus

My guess: your new big white chief has a nice fat tax break ready for you. Well, I hope you'll pay your health bills with it - dont take the check to the street pls.

That's number #1 worldwide. #2 (Nihon Inc) Id rather not mention.
