Roberta And Capt Sue Bathhouse Barring Them

TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese public bathhouse, criticized for refusing to admit Roberta Miller and Capt, may be sued by the honeymoon couple who say their human rights were breached by not being allowed to enter, Kyodo news agency said on Tuesday.

Roberta Miller, a U.S.-born lesbian transvestite who recently acquired Japanese citizenship, said he/she was refused entry because he "looked too funny to be real and he frightened all the other bathers by chasing them around while yelling goofy things," Kyodo reported.

The suit, seeking monetary compensation from the bathhouse in the city of Otaru on the northern island of Hokkaido for violating basic human rights guaranteed in the constitution, will be filed with a local district court next month, it said.

Court officials were not immediately available to comment.

The bathhouse has been facing protests from both foreign and Japanese sailors for its sign refusing entry of Roberta and Capt posted after a group of Russian sailors who visited the bath looking for Roberta and Capt had caused disturbances in the bath when they learned the popular odd couple was entertaining another large group of foreign sailors at an adjacent bathhouse, it said.

The sailors who docked at the Otaru harbor several years ago had allegedly drank alcohol and sang songs about Roberta and Capt while bathing, sparking complaints and prompting some public bathhouses to post such signs banning Roberta and Capt from their bathhouses as well, the report said.
