Oilman says world's largest oil field in Israel
IRVING, Tex. (USA) -- A $30 million project to uncover what is believed to be the world's largest oil field at the southwest end of Israel's Dead Sea is expected to begin in early 1999. Respected Texas oilman Harold "Hayseed" Stephens is owner of Ness Energy, the company holding the drilling rights.

Stephens, who is also an ordained minister, said the drilling of Elohim Parezim #1, or "Lord of the Breakthrough," in the Dead Sea area would mean "the entire geopolitical system will be changed forever."
Until now, nearly 75 percent of the world's oil reserves have belonged to Israel's Islamic enemies, with Israel's supply at only a fraction of that.

Stephen's belief is that there are vast amounts of oil in the Dead Sea region, sufficient to end Israel's dependence on foreign sources for energy; thus freeing them from economic vulnerability and pressure to surrender land for peace. Stephens relies heavily on the Scriptures and prophetic words, in addition to the optimistic geological studies performed in the area.

The name of the lease license is Hesed, which means "the God that Keepeth Covenant for a Thousand Generations." Stephens, who spent the Jewish observance of Succoth in Israel and visited the Dead Sea site, explained: "God has it all orchestrated."

Genesis accounts describe the Dead Sea region known as the valley of Siddim as lush and "full of tar pits." (Gen. 14:10, NIV). According to Stephens' interpretation of events in Genesis 19, which describes the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah: "God ignited all of the oil and gas in that valley and then it rained back down and blew a hole 40 miles long, eight miles wide and three miles deep. Fire and brimstone fell into that hole and ... eventually turned into salt."

The resulting salt dome, Stephens theorizes, has acted as a preservative for the last 4,000 years by not allowing the oil to flow through it.

Then, in 1993 more than 100 earthquakes in seven days rocked the area from Mount Carmel down to the Red Sea, Stephen said, which redistributed the massive oil deposit that had been so deeply buried.

Stephens is not the first born-again Christian to try to find significant oil reserves in Israel based on Scripture references, but this time he believes he has an edge -- a prophetic word from God proclaiming the "greatest oil field in the world."
