Bland originally adopted this particular alias on Yahoo about a year or so ago, under the misplaced notion that it might collaterally encourage more people to refer to him as "marvellous".

Unfortunately, those who know him best still stubbornly insist on calling him "bland".

(He has yet to figure out why, exactly...)

FWIW, bland has a small collection of other "bland" id's he commonly uses on Yahoo: "Baron von Bland", "Bland after dark," and "Bland, James Bland" (often stirred, but never shaken). He has occasionally been known, on those sour days when he gets absolutely killed in the market, to post as "The Late Baron von Bland".

Bland adopted the use of third person in his posts simply as a wry bit of silliness, a prophylactic against taking himself too seriously in cyberspace.
