Looks like Paul DeMone doesn't like the chances of IA-64 with respect to performance:

Compaq's EV8 Alpha looks to be totally kick ass. Their recent pact with Sandia National Labs to create the world's fastest super computer based on Alpha technology should speed the EV8 development timeline. I'm starting to think about Compaq as a long term investment holding (I picked up 4K shares on Friday).

The above article also mentions that AMD would be on the right track if Sledgehammer is indeed CMP with SMT. Intel looks screwed short term as well as long term. Makes me wonder when we will hear them announce that they are working on a 64-bit Willamette.
