On a program about women in prison that I saw on TV the other night it said that when men go to prison, they are likely to be kept in touch with by their families, to have visitors. Women are much, much more likely to simply be dropped by their families. The percentage of the prison population that had a visitor at the featured women's prison on this particular visiting day was somewhat over 1%.

There must be a sociobiological reason for it. Or Marxist. (So often they're the same.) But what would it be that could account for such a huge, and sad, disparity?
