yes, i am aware that statistics alone won't do the trick, and even that you can "massage" statistics....
as for your:
Since you have found the Schaeffer Drug Library, I'm sure you will eventually find this if you haven't already.
yes, i have read it... and i quote this part:
Be reasonable.
If you can present a sound and reasonable approach to solving the drug problem, and maintain that stance, you will short-circuit most of the negative emotions and hostility which may be raised against you. Notice that I have said a reasonable "approach" to solving the drug problem, not a reasonable "solution" to the drug problem. By approach, I mean a method of finding a solution. Do not try to present a solution because, as discussed later, that only gets you into trouble. Instead, promote a fair and reasonable method of finding a solution -- such as the objective commission called for by the Hoover Resolution.
At the same time, this reasonable stance forces our opponents to either be reasonable and follow us toward reform, or adopt ever more extreme positions on drugs. One of my favorite questions for them is: "What do you have against an open and honest review of the evidence?"
in particular, read this :
If they do not agree to an open and honest review of the evidence then they clearly demonstrate that they are too extreme to even consider the facts. If they do agree to the review, then I have them every time because I have already read the evidence and I know what it says.
now.... let me keep this paragraph for a little later... meanwhile... let's continue....
here. (the war on drugs), the disparities are too great, plus the results... are pathetic... i mean after all these years and all these deaths and people in jail and seized properties... we are not even making a dent in the consumptions or worse, in the imprisonment rate.
Voters will more likely be persuaded with their pocketbook in this case.
exactly, and it is clear to see that the cost of "fighting" has gone beyond any logical proportion, against the benefit of education (prevention) and cure (programs to assist those who need it). in addition the long-term effect will also affect the picture.
people, however, heed to educate themselves to see through the political propaganda and clichés of "the War on Drugs"
the war is against us.
They are very confused by de-criminalization or legalization and rightly so. They worry for their children.
ignorance leads to confusion. read above.
and you think that the current situation is safer for the children ?
or... do you think i don't give a damn about children ?
all i am saying the current "war" is NOT working, and getting worse. increased weaponry, killings or more prisons are NOT going to change this.
evidence makes a hard case for a change. legalization ? control use ? i do not care what you call it. the current system is not going to succeed.
We also need to worry for the destruction and subversion of our law enforcement bodies
tscht tscht... now, that sounded like paranoia to me... where have i suggested or hinted that we should destroy the law enforcement body? where did i say that ?
the property rights of the 4th Amendment,
really ? did i say anything about or against this ?
let's see...
Article [IV.]
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
now.... look at what i said: (actually... all i did was mentioned the statistics that pertain to seized property, and made a comment insinuating that the way these items are treated could have an influence into how the drug policy is managed. in effect insinuating that the current law is TOO much in against the PRIVATE CITIZEN from the discretion of the authorities.
this is the post:

now... look at the following two: (does anyone thing this could influence the decision to stop the "war on drugs")
Federal Drug Abuse Budget:
druglibrary.org
Property Seizures :
Note: few people with property seized are ever charged or convicted of a crime
druglibrary.org
and then....
breakdown of seized property (i.e. small time dealers as opposed to big drug dealers)
druglibrary.org;

so what's YOUR point ?
then you say....
freedom of speech and of course the 2nd Amendment, my favorite (not yours).
where does "freedom of speech" come into all this ? or what did I say about freedom of speech ?
and the 2nd amendment ?
Article [II.]
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
so tell me....
how do you arrive at your conclusion that such amendment is NOT my favorite ?
where have i said anything about the right of gun ownership that would lead you to say the above ?
for the record....
i am not against gun ownership. but i am against ignorant people owning guns, as much as i am against idiots driving pick up trucks. who does not know how to drive it , (or any kind of car for that matter.)
all i have done is posted some statistics so people inform themselves... ( i myself feel i am better informed by reading them.)
bottom line ?
quoting YOUR OWN REFERENCE BROUGHT BY YOU, which i pasted it above, and now i will paste it again below...
If they do not agree to an open and honest review of the evidence then they clearly demonstrate that they are too extreme to even consider the facts. If they do agree to the review, then I have them every time because I have already read the evidence and I know what it says.
so... WHERE is your review of the evidence, or alternative data ? where is your "open" and honest review ? as it states... you have demonstrated to be close minded, and rather stupid, since... if you think that you bringing references to the 4th. and 2nd. ammendment, particularly when i have made nor mention of such... all i have done is present the statistics, and expresed a couple of opinions to responses made to me.
based on that....
i think you are another RWer, coming in for a fishing expedition. so buzz off and get lost. don’t bother me. my time is better spent talking to someone else. when i decide to do some research on anthropology and the origin of man (via evolution, you know, the monkeys and all that), then i will see if i change my mind.
meanwhile.....
