MRCY ($49 nice boost)Shares Rise to $0.30, Beats Wall Street

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Mercury Computer Systems Inc (NasdaqNM:MRCY - news) posted on Wednesday second quarter earnings per share of 30 cents, above the 26 cents reported in the prior-year period as it beat Wall Street forecast.

According to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial, Mercury was expected to report second quarter earnings of 25 cents per share.

The Chelmsform, Mass.-based firm said in a statement it expected third quarter earnings of 32 cents per share on revenues of about $46 million while fourth quarter income is seen at 36 cents a share on revenues of $49 million.

Both earnings per share projections are in line with current analysts' forecasts.

Mercury shares fell $1-9/16, or 3.5 percent, to close at $43-3/8 on Wednesday, above a year low of $17-2/16 but below a 52-week high of $68-2/16.
