I am opposed to the death penalty for the following reasons.

1. The government should set an example that it is wrong to kill another human being for any reason (except in an unavoidable war).
2. I do not believe it is a deterrent.There has been no death penalty in the U.K. for a long time and there is a much lower murder rate there than here.
3. Once an innocent person is put to death, there is no way to redress the injustice.

I believe in life imprisonment with ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE OF PAROLE (unless, of course their innocence is proven later) for those who are now given the death penalty.
