Hi, Steven. My instincts are much like yours but the only study I found says we're wrong. This international study found no correlation between education and atheism and that atheists tended to have been such all their lives. It's a strange study about "supply-side" religion. (Most of the atheists I know started out as Catholics.)

I saw another study that argued that we can't measure education since the highest ed in this country is more the acquisition of technical knowledge than education in th classical sense of the word so we can't correlate atheism and education.
