PC sales also disappoint in Europe

heise.de

Please note that this is not a complete translation of the original article, I've just pointed out what I think are the most relevant points.

--------------------
According to this C't news article PC sales in Europe grew by only 6.9% in Q4 2000 over Q4 1999 (11.7% in Q4 1999, 20%+ in the years before).
...
Market researchers at Context assume that overall PC sales in the year 2000 in Europe grew by only 7.9%.
...
Jeremy Davis of Context thinks that the increasing number of devices suited to access the Internet like cell phones, PDAs, set-top boxes, etc. could mean that the European PC market could be saturated faster than what was previously assumed. Davis also cited the so called "Gigahertz crisis" as a reason for declining PC sales: customers are satisfied with the speed of computers they have right now which are fast enough for the applications they use every day.
Context thinks the above stated numbers may vary slightly because of follow-up data coming from PC manufacturers.
...
While desktop PC sales are decelerating fast there's strong growth in sales of notebooks, portables and servers (again according to Context numbers).
