I'm back :)

Well, fellas, what can I say. If you look at my record from last year, and the one fight I predicted last week, Corrales-Mayweather was my worst yet. No ducking it, I got it almost bass-ackwards.

I was literally shocked by several items...

First, while I naturally did consider Corrales losing, I only considered him doing so through a decision. I grossly underestimated the power behind the acknowledged speed of Pretty Boy Floyd.

In fact, at about 6:00 on Saturday night I considered posting a message to this board entitled "LPS5 flips!", picking Mayweather by a decision, but - in the spirit of sticking with ones' first reaction - I quickly fell back into the opinion that Corrales would connect a few times and put Floydie down on the canvas.

Second, I was surprised that Mayweather knocked Corrales down. Absolutely unforseen. At the worst, I figured a cut, redness, something like that. But to put him down - especially as he did when the bell rang in the...7th?...wow. I attribute the knockdowns more to an attritive, rather than pure one-punch power effect, which is not to take anything away from Mayweather, but leads to my third and final point...

Activity. Jeez...even David Tua threw a few punches. Diego Corrales was, except for perhaps the 6th round, simply following Floyd around to get stitched. Unbelievable; I found myself furious watching him get taken apart by Mayweather, for not other reason than that even when he did get Floyd into a corner, he did nothing.

Mayweather deserved Corrales' belt, without a doubt. I'd expected a lot more action out of Corrales, who seemed to have no heart at all. Then again...fighting Angel Manfredy ain't fighting Floyd Mayweather, is it.

It was a rout, and stands as my worst pick to date. I was happy, though, to see that at least one columnist agreed with my assessment beforehand, while Flattop of FightNews.com was dead on, with mr. mark, in his picking
Mayweather for speed and ring movement. Congrats to you savvy cats.

(Judah, you better not embarrass me now...)

;)
