Preliminary Results from TORNGAT Mini-bulk Sample
TORONTO, Jan. 22 /CNW/ - Twin Mining Corporation ("Twin Mining") (TWG - TSE) is pleased to announce that preliminary results from the processing of mini-bulk sample A (96 tonnes) at site location AD2 produced to date already a gem quality stone of 0.685 carat (4.6 x 4.2 x 3.54 mm), which is 340% larger than the largest stone recovered previously from the same sample site (see also release of August 29, 2000). The primary objective of the mini bulk samples was to prove the large TORNGAT dyke system produces larger gem quality diamonds with increasing sample size at a specific sample site.
Summary of the largest diamonds recovered to date from sample A:
Diamond size mm Diamond weight carat
4.60 x 4.20 x 3.45 0.685
4.97 x 3.87 x 3.40 0.566
3.33 x 2.49 x 2.30 0.229
2.69 x 2.63 x 2.10 0.143
2.58 x 2.39 x 2.00 0.140
2.45 x 2.17 x 1.70 0.070
2.98 x 2.21 x 1.90 0.086 fragments of same diamond 2.65 x 1.29 x 1.30 0.034
All reported diamonds are of gem quality, white and transparent.
Final diamond recoveries for sample A and the other mini bulk samples C and NN are expected within the first quarter 2001. Process development at Lakefield Research Limited for the diamond extraction from the diamondiferous kimberlite is progressing well.
