Jozef: oil barons is rather self explanatory dont you think? Us Canadians dont need to explain everything to you guys do we? ;)

IF they get approval up there, (oil barons = the corporate heads of the major oil companies if you still dont know who I mean Jozef) they will be given a free rein up there.. they'll probably cut corners on environmental safety controls.. and with Norton, Dubya and Whitman all having pushed or pushing industry self-regulation (which I view as being the same as telling bank robbers they can rob the bank without worrying about police chasing them, provided they give back any money they steal) and who I predict will be lax on enforcement of laws and punishment, I foresee a disaster in the making up there, which is why you will have (I believe anyhow) strong Canadian objections to it. As far as I am concerned, Canada should refuse to allow US supertankers thru Canadian waters to avoid another Exxon Valdez spill and also refuse to let a 2nd Alaska pipeline built thru its territory.

However.. as I said.. with strong Democratic opposition to this, as well as some moderate Republican opposition to it (I understand drilling for oil in a wildlife preserve needs to be approved by an Act of Congress) and with the Environmental groups owning the moral high ground.. I foresee this plan probably getting deep-sixed.
