Chip, Thanks for the article.

Here is the quote I concerned with:

>Intel chief Andrew Grove predicted much of the company's future growth
>will come from the server market, as well from as Intel's existing
>PC microprocessor business.

If server market could solve intel's problem, then IBM would be still be the king of computer or SUNW's stock price would go through the roof. Gee, what did andy smoke? If intel forget their roots, they will make the same mistake IBM made when they ignored PC market.

Based on all the benchmarks we saw, it is not difficult to design a state-of-art CPU. At least I did not agree with andy's statement that it take billions dollar to develop a new CPU. Only hold back of AMD and others is manufacture capabilities and marketing muscles. If any of them successfully established a volume market even at the low end, it would be the end of intel's virtual monopoly. Everyone but intel and intel investors would be very happy. (I am obsessed with monopoly because that is the main reason I brought intel at the first place.) With intel focusing on server side, it will be not possible. Look at what microsoft did to netscape, I think intel can learn a thing or two.

Paul Engel, now I see why you hedge your bet. Great move!

enough complain for today
