Hello All

Was pleased this morning to get a return call from Larry Osterwise who spoke with me for 20 minutes. I was still a bit sick as well as groggy from sleep loss but got some of his perspective on a few questions.

After the conference call I wondered if there was a shift in the timeline and pre-eminence of Sedona as the main engine in this company's future. He left little doubt that Sedona was in an earlier stage of evolution than he realized when first coming on board - and now thinks it could take a couple extra quarters to reach the sales levels projected for late 97.

George Gray is gone from Sedona - but no further comment. It was - as you may recall - George who told me that the relative importance of Sedona and Oracle to each other was a very interesting question. Larry spoke again of the DM Tool dis-aggregation into components usable in the development of spatial databases - perhaps incorporated into an Oracle product. I asked if this was potentially big - and I think I heard a yes - with some examples - but no real enthusiasm - could be wrong. One doesn't have to read far in publications to know what what the addition of a geo-spatial aspect to databases means to industry.

He told me I was wrong about Sedona not being a winner in the NIMA OGC-IPT - though they didn't get selected for phase II of GII97. He told me that both the Tangent Scanner and DM Tool were recognized products of excellence in that arena. He added that OGC standards seemed more likely to come from developed products and companies - than coming from committee meetings where folks invent the wheel. The examples he gave were Microsoft setting a standard with Office Suite - (simply by producing it) -and Intel with Pentium chips. Seemed reasonable to me. On the other hand - it sounds different than what the analysts touted about the GIS standards development and how it would be significant to Sedona - but I may well be missing the mark.

The Scanner sale in todays news - is part of the 1 million $$ backlog spoke about last week. Carefully choosing his words - he stated that the current vision for potential marketing and sales of scanners was perhaps a lot wider than when he first came on. He also said that Sedona's potential (although more embryonic in development) - continues to expand.

Told him I thought company press which helped expain their products - technically and practically - was as beneficial to many investors - as the financials. He told me their resources were limited for that sort of thing. He also believes the general investment community continues to grow more bullish on Scan-G.
