About China going 1x directly

Here's what I said to laodeng, rosa by then.

Rosa,

It is doable to rollout 1x directly. After all the difference between 1x and cdmaOne is very little. However there are a few considerations.

1) Time, 1x is still in development stage, which means time is still needed for the fully maturation. The recent trials on 1x are only the partial implementation of the standard, even for 1x itself. So do you want to jump in right now or do it later?

2) Installation base: You really need a lot of infrastructures base in places to provide the services. Buiding out base stations is a must. Since it is still under developments, you really don't have a lot of commercial products out there.

3) Handset: Similar to the infra sides. Only it's more important to provide more mature and cheap handsets into consumers' hand.

4) Experience: To manage a cdma networks you need a lot of experiences in the real world operation. By operating a cdmaOne networks now will get you well prepared for the future upgrade.

So I think China should start do it ASAP instead of play the waiting game. Once it can run the networks smoothly, upgrading to 1x should be real easy.
