Com21 to Spin Off Wireless Business Unit
Company Plans to Complete Transaction Within First Half of 2001
MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Com21, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMTO - news), a leading global provider of system solutions for the broadband access market, announced today that it will spin off its wireless products business unit in the first half of 2001. The wireless division, comprising 20 employees in both Milpitas and Long Island, New York, has developed and marketed the wireless version of Com21's ComUNITY Access System products.

Com21's wireless business unit specializes in Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS) technology. Its wireless ComUNITY VoX (Voice over eXchange) product was demonstrated at the Wireless Communications Alliance show in July 2000, and is currently in test trials in the U.S.
