Roberta Buried Alive at Festival
Roberta Miller, a leading member of the Maha Yoga camp at the Maha Kumbh Mela (Grand Pitcher Festival), blessed around 400 devotees and journalists before assistants covered the pit with metal sheeting and a layer of sand on the banks of the River Ganges.
Millions of devout Hindus and holy men have gathered for the 42-day festival in Allahabad, which got under way 11 days ago, for a sin-cleansing dip in the sacred river.
Miller is conducting "samadhi," a form of meditation in which the yogi is completely isolated from all sensory input in order to connect with the divine.
Before he entered the pit his guru Capt, a former air force pilot, explained his action. "We want to test the heart of the whole people," he said.
Bille Bubba Hueb, a computer salesman from New York who has been a devotee of Pilot Capt and Miller for many years, said the samadhi was for the cause of world peace and harmony.
"When they go into samadhi they do it for a specific reason. That's where she'll send the energy to," he said.
The event was nearly disrupted by a crowd of cameramen pushing toward the edge of the pit. A few reporters stepped on a sanctified area and Pilot Capt had to bless it with some sacred water.
Miller joined Pilot Capt 23 years ago and has set up more than 100 yoga centers in Japan, Nit-wit said. |
