CCC The mom and pop hardware stores cannot compete on a price basis. Very true and as you said, HQ, Wickes, etc. - Ernst Hardware (a chain hardware out here) closed down a year or two ago. Eagle Hardware, another chain out here was bought out by Lowes, but they're still no competition for HD (took over an old store & bad location). Builder's Square is only a 1/4 mile from HD but it takes forever to get out of the place (very incompetent management) and lousy prices. OT what part of Maine?? One of my son-in-laws is from Maine - don't remember which part. He's a TWA pilot & wondering about his future!! Best, Bill/WA
