X,

I am totally against banning books. I am totally against banning M&M (sorry can't spell that fools name and he lives like 20 minutes from my house -g-), or whoever is singing about killing his wife and cops.

As for the label, well that is what Tipper got, but that was a result of her efforts and not the original intention. It is a form of censorship, in that any artist's effort that is labeled, must in fact be labeled by someone. That "someone" has views and if they elect to impose those views on me, then they have effectively censored. The fact that I can still obtain the product is not the issue.

As for food or drugs being labeled, that is more a matter of safety and does not imply a judgement. It could be argued that labeling cigarettes is censorship, but it is in the same vein as the music labels.

What do I think should be "censored". Very few things, and they all have one thing in common. They place a preference for someone else's viewpoint over my own. Examples would be, an attempt to show a film to 9th graders that explain that Homosexual behavior is a normal behavior. Is censorship the right word? Maybe not, but clearly the attempt to influence someone to a lifestyle/life-choice that is not the norm, is unacceptable. I can maintain this position and be perfectly happy living next to a gay couple (which I did for over five years). The fact that they were gay had zero effect on my life, or any choices I wished to make. Being gay, as far as I was concerned, was their right. If they tried to promote their lifestyle to children as normal, then, and only then, would I have an issue.

Personal freedom is very important to Republicans. It is one of the most perplexing things we face in trying to understand how different parts of the Democratic party have to fit and work together. That is another discussion, for another time.

When was the last time Republicans wanted to ban books? As for the rating system in Hollywood, well I think you will find support on both sides for that. It is really along the same lines as the music labels.

I don't see censorship as that big a concern. From my perspective there are much bigger issues at stake.

HAGO
