Steven,

"It's more a matter of trying to explain to gay students that they are not abnormal, and of trying to convince straight students that the gay among them should be treated as normal people are treated: with tolerance, and not contempt."

I would have no problem with that. Provided that is what it was. I can prove, beyond a doubt, that being homosexual is in fact not "normal" in the grand design of life. The issue is the promotion of the gay lifechoice as an acceptable and valid alternative. It is how this is packaged and presented to kids that I have an issue with. There is a huge difference is allowing a six year old kid to be exposed to homosexual behavior vs. a high school student.

As for promoting tolerance, I think it should be the goal. I don't want to see gays seeking more, resulting in yet another form of affirmative action.

Where I think we may really have an issue is with the difficult term "normal". "Normal" cannot really be defined to the degree we need, for it to be useful for our discussion. "Not normal" has at least a chance for definition, and that is where some progress might be made.

I have known many gays, and I honestly believe that some were born that way, and some chose that way. The potential for them to work and produce for our society is high, and I would like to see them have the opportunity to do that without fear of harm or discrimination. There are always people who are going to want to hurt gays. They are not all Republicans. Like I posted earlier, how many of your Democratic union brothers would support gay rights? Not too many, and I speak from very clear, and very accurate, firsthand experience.

The Democratic party is not one party, under one tent, and that is one of their biggest problems.

So your statement about "normal" is still very open for discussion. As for your goals, I would agree that they are worthy. Anything less would be against life, for homosexuals have a right to live. That would be a very un-Republican position to take.

Tolerance without preference might be a good opening line.

HAGO
