You keep calling the Democratic party "your party" (meaning mine). I assure you it is not my party but a poor compromise over which I labored long and hard before I tossed over my vote. I try to vote for things and people that make sense, but alas that is some challenge these days. My ONLY criterion is that it all makes sense. In no way do I toe the line when a party has a wrong position.
I've voted Libertarian and Republican when it suited me, but the former is way too hands off for the real world power structure (and the environment) and the latter has been taken over by the Christian Right. The Greeners are too rabid and anti-business. But I'm consistent. For example, I would not vote in Willie Brown as Dog Catcher, former speaker of California Assembly, and now mayor of SF because he is, IMO, a corrupt individual who'd sell out his mother. Jerry Brown and Ralph Nader aren't of this ilk.
Gore probably isn't far from Willie Brown, but Baby Bush will pick Supreme Court nominees. What Baby Bush will pick scares me because of his views. But that is JMO based upon his choice of VP and what he has said about reading books on philosophy. I doubt he is a deep moral thinker and he will act according to his nature.
This presidency also stinks of a Third World regime when Son of Minor Accomplishment follows Father (who also ran our secret police in a previous capacity) and who's brother controlled the state which gave him the election, by a minority count nationwide.
I don't think Papa Bush is bothered much regarding civil rights or he wouldn't have been able to head the CIA. I doubt Cheney (who worked for Papa Bush) gives a darn about my civil rights because I'm not a Born-again Christian (which by Fundamentalist Christian dogma means I can't be right about much). Bush, IMO, will be a puppet of a Right Wing machine, which produces policy to favor the wealthy. |
