I never say never.

But look at history. A prime example is Cray Computer - they went belly up trying to make a GaAs computer out of MSI devices. These had only a few hundred gates per chip and they couldn't get the product to market.

There are always pie-in-the-sky technologies announced that seemingly will unseat silicon.

However - you need to ask yourself - how many MILLIONS OF MAN YEARS have gone into silicon R & D and production? How well is silicon understood? And when has any near-term performance limit stifled silicon development?

Not to mention the fact that the RISC versus CISC war has been over for quite a while. Guess which one won?
