QLogic to Produce SBus-to-Fibre Channel Host Adapters for Sun
Microsystems Inc.

Answers the Call from Global 2000 Customers for a Highly Reliable and Interoperable Solution for Connectivity
from Sun Enterprise(TM) Servers to Switched Fabrics

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 2001-- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC - news), today announced plans to produce an
SBus-to-Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter for Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW - news). The product is being developed in response
to demands from Global 2000 IT professionals for a highly reliable and interoperable solution for SBus connectivity from Sun
Enterprise(TM) servers to Fibre Channel switched fabrics. Scheduled for introduction mid-year, the Sun branded product, developed by
QLogic, will eliminate the need for SAN administrators in mission-critical environments to source after-market products.

According to Kathleen Holmgren, Vice President, Business Operations for the Network Storage Division of Sun Microsystems, Inc., ``The
Solaris Operating Environment will soon be the first to support the full range of native high performance Fibre Channel infrastructure. A
native Sun SBus-to-Fibre Channel host adapter is required to help ensure 100% compatibility with the Solaris Operating Environment and
Sun Enterprise servers.''

Frank Berry, Vice President of Product Marketing for QLogic's Computer Systems Group said, ``The new SBus adapter will feature dual 1Gb
Fibre Channel ports for redundancy and load balancing, backed by a suite of Solaris Operating System drivers.''

About SBus

When Sun developed its first SPARCstation(TM) systems in 1989, existing I/O bus designs such as ISA and EISA, could not provide the
high performance Sun customers demanded. Sun developed the SBus, which subsequently became an IEEE standard. The SBus quickly
became popular and successful; over 300 different SBus cards were available by 1993. With over three million SBus slots in use today,
SBus' success will continue for the next several years.
