Fun-

Prior to last Wednesday when the Stage 3 alerts began there was at least one CA based generator off line, a DUK facility. Then last Wed. night on the CBS evening news I heard that another went off-line for maintenance. That was the straw that broke the camel's back and made the ISO go to Stage 3 alerts. Further reading of the LA Times revealed there were more plants off line last week... perhaps several. These plants were expected to come back on-line this week and relieve the crunch.

This may account for the manner in which the outages took place.

(I really had to dig for this info to determine if it was a sudden increase in demand or some other factor like plants off line.)
